Friday Five: Good Things

It’s another well earned Friday, the gateway to the weekend!  I think this Friday Five is pretty awesome!  It’s a good time as any to give thanks and appreciate the good things.  I know this week tested my patience.  Imagine teaching 300+ middle schoolers the week they are getting out for Spring Break!?  Hello hormones!  Thankfully a break is on the way and it’s much needed for everyone!

So here are my Friday Five: Good Thingsfridayfivegoodthings

1. Spring Break

Yes, yes, yes!!  7 whole days away from school and 4 of those will be spent with my best girl at the beach.  Hayden and I are taking a trip!  I can’t wait to spend the time with her.  We’ve already made some plans of things we want to see and do.  I can’t wait.

2. Spring is here!

While walking around our school campus, I noticed that the pretty purple flowers that bloom each Spring have sprung!  Finally, better weather, sunshine and warmth are on their way.  Although Wednesday’s night run was tough until we got warmed up (humidity, boo!!), I am thankful to not have to bundle up for every run.  flowers

3. Skirts and Tanks

My favorite time of year for running!!  I love nothing more than wearing skirts and tanks.  I just snagged more Running Skirts just yesterday.  I couldn’t pass up their $50 mystery box of skirts.  I’m excited to see what they send me, hopefully there will be something I already don’t own.  I’m a bit obsessed.  I also just got two new tanks too, one for Flying Pirate!  Do you know how hard it is to find a red tank top!?

4. Summer Vacations

We just started planning some of our summer trips and I’m so excited!  We are headed to the beach with family for a week in late June, early July.  I’m hoping that I can run the Island Independence 5K again this year!  Busch Gardens Williamsburg was running this special deal, a Fun Pass for the summer, for the cost of a one day admission.  We grabbed passes, several friends did too!  So we have a few trips to plan out so we can all go!  It’s only 3 1/2 hours away so it’s a perfect thing to do, even last minute all summer.  Our pool also opens in just a few weeks!  Looking forward to spending the evenings there until we are out for summer.

5. 702 and counting

I am super close to finishing my 2nd consecutive year run streak.  It’s still unbelievable to me that I’ve run a year, at least a mile, but to be closing in year 2 is insane.  I’m blessed that I’ve been able to do it as long as I have and I’m thankful that I’ve been able to do it too, no injuries!  I’m knocking on wood.  My friend, Christine, is super close to her year date!!  I can’t wait to celebrate it with her and run that 3.65 mile run! 🙂  I guess, we’ll have to do a 7.3 miler for mine!?  Too bad it doesn’t fall on a weekend day vs a Thursday.

So what’s good with you?  What are you looking forward to this Spring or Summer?  Any fun trips planned already?

Thinking Out Loud

Happy Thursday!!  It’s time for another Thinking Out Loud post. Thinking-Out-Loud

Yesterday, I celebrated my 41st birthday!  It was the perfect day, very low key and we enjoyed a really nice dinner at one of my favorite restaurants.  We spent the evening sharing funny college stories with Nick’s dad and step-mom.  Many of the antidotes, they had never heard.  It’s funny how we wait until we are well into adulthood to let our parents know all of our “stories”.  Hayden sat and listened to all of them, laughing.  We are very honest with her when she asks questions about life and our past.  It’s helped strengthen our relationship with her.  She’s not afraid to ask us questions, sometimes she doesn’t want to hear the answers, but I’m happy that we have that kind of relationship with her.  She also doesn’t play favorites between Nick and I either.  She is just as willing to ask Nick questions.  I think it’s great!

I woke up this morning thinking it was Friday.  It was the worst feeling in the world.  You know exactly what I mean?!  I’ve been trying all day to be okay with it being Thursday.

This weekend, I’ll be running the Hamilton Lakes 10K.  I’m not ready to race anything.  I thought about it briefly after this past weekend’s 5 miler, but I really just want to treat this as part of my weekend long run.  I’m planning to add in some miles on Sunday too.

Spring Break is right around the corner!  We have just 5 more school days until we have off 7 days.  I’m looking forward to spending some time with Hayden.  We’re headed out of town just the two of us!  I’m pretty excited!!  Nick scored tickets to the Masters so he’s heading out of town the same time with the guys.  I’m so happy for him.  This is the first year he’s gotten tickets through the lottery!!

So what’s on your mind?  What are you thinking about?

See what other people are thinking about too for Thinking Out Loud Thursday hosted by Running With Spoons.

Happy Week!

Spring Break! Grab the Chipotle Aioli!

This week has been my Spring Break, a much deserved reprieve from school.  My shoulders have returned to their proper position, instead of hanging out somewhere near my ears.  My sleep patterns are topsy turvy, staying up too late and waking up still too early.  I have savored long out-to-lunch lunches vs plastic box lunches (aka as microwave meals) since I have had longer than 20 minutes to scarf down some food.  I’ve had time to eat my breakfast and enjoy a second (or third) cup of coffee. Most importantly, time spent with H and my family has been so nice.

H and I went to visit my sister, brother in law and their newish baby S for a few days.  My mom was already there, so we joined her for the middle part of this week.  H and I drove down mid-day Tuesday, just in time for my sister to get off of work.  I was so happy to get in some baby lovin’.  I hadn’t seen my beautiful niece in a few months and it was so wonderful to see her.

On Wednesday, my sis had to go back to work, so my mom, H and I got to babysit. 🙂  I2013-04-03 14.51.13 needed to get a run in as well, so I headed out early so that we could go to lunch at the Bass Lake Draft House.  The fam tried it out the past weekend and my mom suggested it, knowing that the place was right up my ally.  It was so good that we ended up eating there one more time before we left yesterday.  I ended up trying two sandwiches, El Diablo and the Steak and Cucumber pita. I’m pretty much addicted to their chipotle aioli. The food was fantastic and the cold beer post run was well deserved!  Mmmm….chipotle aioli…oh wait…where was I?

Every time I visit my sister,  I pass the turn for the American Tobacco Trail on the way to her house.  I have friends who have run the Tobacco Road Marathon and Half or have traveled there for a Saturday long run.  They all rave about how nice it is and that’s a great place to run.  I was going to finally have the opportunity to check it out.  So excited!  In addition to running the ATT, it was also the start of April which meant another 5 by the 5th virtual run!

I laced up, drove the 20 minutes to the trail, and headed out once I got my bearings of where I was going.  Since I had to run 5 miles, I was just going to do an out and back along the course.  The trail isn’t really a woodsy “trail”, which I knew, but more of a pea gravel trail so I was happy to be running on a softer surface, just to mix it up.  ATT is very flat too; I had a slight uphill grade going out.  I had an awesome run!  The weather was perfect and the trail provided a lot of scenery and the miles flew by!  I ended up running the fastest 5 miler so far during this virtual run series, beating my February 5 miler by :30!  April 5 by the 5th

It was a great visit to my sister’s!  We enjoyed our time with them, relaxing, hanging with baby S and the rest of the family.  I look forward to more trips especially during the summer, when H and I can head down for a few days here and there.  I also would love to plan for our running group to head to the ATT for a summer Saturday long run.  It would be a great way to mix up our summer running and maybe we can sneak in a visit to Bass Lake, I’ll definitely need another chipotle fix.
