Weekly Rundown

This week has been quite a week!  There have been some running highs and then some moments that left me feeling beaten up.  weeklyrundownlogoMonday -at start: 88 degrees and 46% humidity

I met up with Amy in the evening to get in a few miles.  She had some speed work to do so I just went to be out there with her.  We ran a one mile warm-up then she went on to do her 800’s.  I was feeling really good and was picking up pace for the next .5 mile in and started tagging along with her for the rest of them.   We absolutely rocked those 800’s I ran mine as a progression and started at 8:00 pace for the first one and ended up with 7:24 for the last one.  We walked in between for each recovery.  We finished up with a cool down.  4.35 miles @10:18 pacemonday817

Tuesday -at start: 81 degrees and 70% humidity

I met Christine, Kay and crew to get in some miles.   We had a decent run and felt pretty good despite how it felt out there.  We finished 4 miles @10:57 pace

Wednesday – at start: 84 degrees and 66% humidity

Cara, Christine and I met up to run in the evening.  We ran a route we haven’t run in a while and ended up with a really great run!  We got in 4.1 miles @ 10:47 pace.  I also got to try out my new HR monitor that is paired with my Garmin.  I’m so excited I don’t have to wear two watches now!  My avg HR was 130, max 147wed819

Thursday – at start: 88 degrees and 52% humidity

This was a two part run.  Christine joined my running/coaching group for a few miles.  We ran and walked with the group for 2.35 miles.  Avg HR 113, max 134.  We were doing 6 minutes running/3 minutes walking x 3.  The ladies were true rockstars!!  Christine and I headed out for another 2 miles together.  Along our run, we saw a huge fox running in a field.  At first we we were in awe, then sort of freaked out.  There had been sightings of a rabid fox near where we were.  We kicked into high gear!  2.01 miles@10:52 pace avg HR 136 max 149 (Funny enough, that’s the fox sprinting)

Friday – at start: 72 degrees in AC

Since I’m back at school that means I get the joy of running a mile in my classroom.  Oh indoor mile at school, how I’ve missed you?!  1 mile at 12:00 pace

Saturday – at start: 66 degrees and 94% humidity

This was the best weather we’ve had all week!!  Even though the humidity was high, we didn’t feel it.  There was a slight cool breeze.  We had a route in mind, but then ended up just wandering around for the whole 10 miles.  We had the best run!!  10 miles@11:05 pace avg HR 128, max HR 145sat822

Sunday – at start: 72 degrees and 69% humidity

What a difference a day makes!  I felt like utter crap for this whole run.  I was drenched within the first mile and was thankful that I had decided to wear my water belt.  We always know that the second long run can be tricky.  We had a few good miles in the 11, but for most of them, we just kind of felt sluggish.  Also, we ran a super hilly route for our second day.  Yesterday’s total feet gain, 295…this run? 505!? 11 miles @ 11:19 pace avg HR 130, max HR 147 sun823

Meals

I’m not even going to pretend that we felt like cooking all week.  I knew it would be tricky with me headed back to work for us to feel like cooking after some long days.  We did so great!!  I was really proud of us for sticking to our cooking plan.

  • Chipotle Glazed Pork with roasted broccoli and mashed potatoes
  • Lemony Shrimp Fettucine
  • Seared Steak with chipotle cream sauce and potato and corn hash
  • Penne Arrabiata with Italian Sausage from a local restaurant

Weekly Rundown

Another great week of marathon training!  After last week’s back down, I felt refreshed and renewed for this week’s longer distances and the weather cooperated more or less.

Fitness

Monday – at start: 72 degrees, foggy and 88% humidity

I had an early morning run planned and ended up being able to run with my sister, Lisa and my friend, Kristen, and her sweet daughter.  We had a great run and looped through the local parks.  It was such a treat!!  We ran 4.01 miles.   I met Christie for Body Pump in the afternoon.  It was a great class and was on the more difficult side, which I love.  I like feeling like I gave it my all at the end of class.

Tuesday – at start: 79 degrees, post storm and  65% humidity

Christine and I met up with our friend, Kay’s running group.  I had to run 4.22 miles to hit 900 miles for the year!  We had a decent run despite the heat and humidity.  900 miles 2

Wednesday – at start: 84 degrees, 37% humidity

The weather was amazing for our evening run!  Christine and I met to run a local trail at Hamilton Lakes.  We ran 4.11 miles @10:33 pace.  We even saw our friend, Nathan out there who was finishing up his run.  wedrun

Thursday -at start: 66 degrees, 83% humidity

I was supposed to meet Christie in the morning, but totally overslept.  I guess I needed it?!  So I ran a quick 4 miler by myself around my neighborhood.  I usually take one day and it run it as a speed workout so this morning was the day.  I got in 4.15 miles @9:28 pace.  I ran it as a 3 mile progression run (Fast, faster, fastest) with a one mile faster.  I nailed it!!  I ran 10:21 the first mile, followed by 9:40 for my faster mile and finished with 8:19 for my fastest mile.  My last mile was back at 9:33.  I was so pleased with how that one went.

I got an additional 2.25 miles in with my coaching group!  These ladies are doing amazing.  We ran 5 minutes and walked 3  x 3.

Friday – One mile rest day!!  I so needed it!

Saturday -at start: 70 degrees, 83% humidity

A few of us met to run in the morning.  Christine and I had 9 miles for our first long run of the weekend.  We broke it up into 2 smaller loops.  The 5 of us all ran together for the first 5 miles.  Kristen headed home to finish her miles back to her house.  The rest of us headed back another mile to our cars to grab water and finish with our second loop of 3 miles.   This was a hilly, hilly route.  I had no one to blame but myself; I mapped it. We gained 400+ feet over the 9 miles?!  It was rough and by the last two miles, we were done.  We finished the 9 miles @11:02.  Avg HR 124

Saturday Night – My family and Keith and Christine volunteered for a local afternoon 5K, the Retro Run.  We were in charge of the first water stop and 3 turns along the course.  We had a great time cheering on the runners for a steamy race!  We were drenched just standing out there; couldn’t imagine actually running it!  retrorunvolunteer

Sunday -at start: 68 degrees, 94% humidity

Long run part two.  A bigger group of us all met to run.  Everyone broke up into smaller groups to run different loops.  We had a huge range of miles between us all.  I had 10 miles to run.  We ran them in smaller loops again today.  We called it 2 2’s and 2 3’s coming back to the car each time for water.  It works well for us to do that for our second day run.  Mentally, I’m able to break the miles down easier that way.  Christine, Cara and I ran our first 2 miler then refueled and were about a mile into our first 3 and our friend, Amy caught up to us.  The four of us ran together back to the cars.  We had 5 miles down, 5 more to go!  Amy and I hung together for the next 5 miles.  We found a great pace and just ticked off the miles.  I finished 10 miles @ 10:37 pace overall with an avg HR 129.  I was stoked!  sundayrunaug

Meal Plan

Good food was every where this week!!  We had some great meals from Hello Fresh and we had one girls’ day lunch this week which was such a treat!

  • An awesome Bento Box (sushi, tempura veggies, Hibachi chicken, fried rice and salad)
  • Lemongrass Chicken skewers
  • Za’Tar Pita Burgers with zucchini fries

Weekly Fitness and Meal Plan

It’s Sunday and for this Sunday that means too things: planning out my week and school tomorrow!! Eeek!! Last day of summer vacation!

Week 7 of Marathon Training
Fitness

Monday – I’ll most likely go back to making Mondays one mile days due to time. I’m hoping to leave school in time to make it to BodyPump in the afternoon.

Tuesday – 4 miles

Wednesday – 4 miles

Thursday – Today will be tricky. I have my open house, Hayden’s Open House and coaching. I’m not sure how I’ll juggle all that but it’ll sort itself out. Going for at least a mile to keep my streak up!

Friday – one mile (maybe more if needed)

Saturday – 10 miles

Sunday – 11 miles. Hitting double digits now for both days on the weekend.

Total miles: 32 but probably 35-36

Meal Planning

We picked some yummy dishes this week!!

  • Lemony Shrimp Linguine
  • Tex Mex Risotto
  • Seared Steak with a chipotle sauce

Thursday will probably be take out since we have a full schedule. I may grab salads from Panera on my way home. Try to keep it healthy and fresh.

Weekly Rundown

Marathon training week 5 is done!  It was a welcomed back down week and I took it easy, rearranged my long runs and had some really good runs late in the week to make up for the mess Wednesday night.  weeklyrundownlogo Fitness

Monday – 3 mile recover run around my neighborhood in the morning.  Solid run given the heat that morning.  3 miles @10:57 pace with avg HR 135

Tuesday – I met Christie and Amy for an early morning 3 miler.  Cara, Hayden and I were going shopping so I had only a little bit of time to get in a run.  3 miles @9:31 pacetuesdayrun

Wednesday – The worst run of all runs!  It was 90+ and 90% humidity.  It was Di’Lishi night with Runnerdude’s group so we met up to run with them!  The only good thing about this run was the company, the ice cold wet towel when we finished, and fro yo. This one counted as my first long run.  5 miles @11:40 pace   It included a lot of walking, some sprinting, and a bunch of complaining.

Thursday – Cara and I met early to run our second long run of the week.  I wasn’t sure how this would go.  It was really foggy and the air felt thick when we started and it was hard to breathe.  We were expecting it to be a repeat of the night before, but then suddenly around mile 4, something clicked and we felt really great!!  So weird how that happens! 6 miles @10:57 pace avg HR 130thursday8-6

Friday – I ran a 5K on the treadmill in our hotel in Williamsburg.  I upped the incline to 1% and started around 10:30 pace and kicked up the speed over time to where I was at 7:40 pace for the last .10.  I walked just a bit to cool down.  3.14 miles@9:41 pacefriday8-7Saturday – I couldn’t take running on the treadmill another day so I ventured outside and ran in the neighborhood that adjoins our hotel.  It was a great run and I felt awesome.   It’s a lot flatter here in Williamsburg then in Greensboro.  I thought I’d only run a mile, but after I got started I decided to run another 5K.  3.1 miles @ 9:13 pacesaturday8-8Sunday – Mandatory one mile rest day.  I’ve not had a “rest” day since last week Wednesday.

Total miles: 24.34 miles

2015 Year to Date: 891.77 on my way to 1500

Looks like I’ll be hitting 900 miles next week! 🙂

We again rocked our meals all week.  Just good food from Hello Fresh!

  • Smoky Black Bean and Sweet Potato Tacos
  • Lemon Basil Chicken with artichokes and broccolini
  • Shrimp and Chorizo Paella
  • Penne pasta with Vodka Cream Sauce and meatballs at Anna’s Brick Oven Pizza in Williamsburg

Weekly Rundown

Hit my highest mileage this week in months!  Marathon training will do that.  I am happy to have a back down week coming up next week before we start jumping the miles again for a few weeks.  Here’s how my week went. weeklyrundownlogoFitness

Monday – I got up early and headed out for a run around my neighborhood.  I haven’t run this route in a while so it was nice to get out there.  I got in 3 miles @10:14 pace.  Felt really good despite the crazy heat.  The rest of the day was spent painting the kitchen. mondayrun

Tuesday – This run was one nasty mess.  It was hot and humid and we were running with some lead shoes.  Holy smokes!   We got in 4 miles @11:43 pace and it wasn’t without constant beeping from my HR monitor too.

Wednesday – Today ended up being my one mile rest day.  Too much going on so it was a perfect day to have a short run.

Thursday – I got up early and ran from a nearby park by myself.  I ran  4 miles and ran at a solid fast pace, @9:01. I met my friend, Kristen, later in the afternoon for Body Pump, making up from missing on Monday.   Today was also the first day of coaching!  We are the neon green group and we have a wonderful bunch of ladies.  The weather was absolutely awful.  I felt terrible because I knew that the weather was going to have an affect of on our run.  We ran 3 minutes and walked 3 minutes.  These ladies did amazingly well!  So proud of them.  We got in just over 1.5 miles.  thursrun

Friday – The weather was absolutely beautiful thanks to a “cold” front that came in and brought dry, cooler air.  I met my sister to run in the morning.  We got in 4.46 miles. 

July’s Mile Total

 Saturday – Same great weather could only mean that we would have an awesome first long run!  Christine and I met up to run 8 miles.  We rocked our run and finished with 8.1 miles @10:57 pace.  We met up with our friend, Cindy, who was running a local relay race and we ran with her for just a bit.

Sunday – Second long run of the weekend and the weather was again cooperating!  We had a beautiful morning for our run.  We felt really good for the whole run and we could not believe that my HR monitor did not beep at all.  Not a peep.  My avg HR was 120.  9 miles @ 10:55sundayrun

Total weekly miles: 35.26

Meals

We ended up with a disjointed week, but that’s alright.  We still managed to cook two of our intended meals and then pieced together the rest with leftovers and take out.

Weekly Fitness and Meal Plan

I get to say my two favorite words during marathon training this week.  What are they?!  BACK DOWN!  After a few weeks of gaining miles, this week is a back down week and I am so happy.  I feel really great with all my training so far, not really tired, no aches and pains, but I’m just ready to run a little bit less this week.  And on top of that, we’re headed to Williamsburg for one last summer hurrah!

Monday – 3-4 miles  With a meeting at school and other appointments, I’m not sure if I’ll run early or later in the day.  I’m thinking later will fit in better.

Tuesday – 4-5 miles

Wednesday – Long run part one, 5 miles

Thursday – long run part two, 6 miles early

Friday – 1 mile

Saturday – 1 mile

Sunday – 1 mile

For Friday through Sunday, I’m giving myself the one mile a day, at least.  I can see that I’d run early all of those days before we head out.  I’m leaving it up in the air, but I’ll get at least a mile in to keep my streak going.

Total miles: 21-23, could be 25-26

Meal Plan

We had another awesome week of choices from Hello Fresh.  We cooked one of our three meals this week already so we have a few more yummy dishes to cook!

Weekly Rundown

4 weeks down only 11 more to go!!  7 Bridges is going to be here before we know it.  This is the earliest I’ve ever started marathon training.  I had mixed feelings about it.  Summer running can be brutal, but so far, I’ve been handling my runs well.  I’m getting all my miles in as planned and I feel really good after most of them too.  The combo of heart rate training and back to back long runs is just the right thing for me!  It’s feels so good to know that my body loves training this way.

Fitness

Monday – I met my friend, Kristen, at Body Pump.  She just recently joined my gym so it’s great to have another person to meet up for classes!  After class, I met up with Marty, Christie, and Amy to run the route for a 5K he’s helping with in November.  The city made some changes to the route and we needed to run it for ourselves.  It was also so flippin’ hot out there.  The dew point was at 74 when we started.  It was not that great of a run, but we all suffered together.  3.01 miles @11:44 pace.  I walked a lot due to my HR coming up. It’s tough to run after BP.

Tuesday- Cara and I met early to run 4 miles.  We had a pretty decent run considering how humid it was when we started.  We looked like two drowned rats when we finished.  Just soaked with sweat.  It was one of those runs where we would have had a puddle if we had wrung out our clothes.  4 miles @11:12 pace I didn’t record my avg HR.

Wednesday – Another early run with Cara.  Each morning was a bit cooler and a little less humid.  We ran a similar route and felt better running it each time.  We ran a lot more then we did the day before.  4 miles @11:03 pace avg HR 127

 Thursday – This was the best morning to run!   72 degrees, slight drizzle when we finally started.  It had poured buckets right before and right after.  We found the window of time in between to get our run in!  Same out as the day before! 4 miles @10:48 pace avg HR 125  If that doesn’t prove how much the dew point/temp/humidity has on pace, I don’t know what else will.  3 different runs and days, same route.  Further reason to treat each run as the day allows too. 🙂

 Friday – 1 mile “rest” day @11:50 pace

Saturday – 7 miles with Christine and crew at Salem Lake.  We haven’t been in there in ages so it was fun to hit the trail.  It’s 7 miles around the lake, so we were able to run around once. Our run was really good!! 7 miles @10:51 pace avg HR 135. We hit one of our favorite post run breakfast places in Winston, Mary’s Gourmet Diner.  So good!

 Sunday – 8 more miles with Christine.  With a second long run, I never know how it might go. We totally lucked out with some cool morning temps! We ran really well and finished just under 1:30 @11:07 pace and avg HR 127! We hardly had to walk today and kept a great pace.

Total weekly miles: 31.10 miles

2015 Year to Date Miles: 832.17 on my way to 1500.

Meals

Whoo wee!  Our meals this week were so good.  Just when I think we’ve tried the best of the best from Hello Fresh, they kick it up another notch with some awesome recipes.  We ate some really tasty meals this week and I was one happy cooking momma! 🙂

Our Meals:

  • Mellow Mushroom pizza after our run on Monday.  So good!  Made that bad run all better. 🙂
  • BBQ Chicken Sliders with tangy coleslaw
  • Shrimp Po Boys with wedge salad

Weekly Rundown

Another week of 7 Bridges Marathon training is in the bag!  It was actually a pretty good week.  The weather was tolerable, but by the end of the week, the heat and humidity were back in full force. And our meals?  We were enjoying some really tasty eats this week.

Monday – I met Christie to run early in the morning for 5 miles.  We ran a route we hadn’t run in a while so it was great to mix it up!  We went to Body Pump in the afternoon. 5 miles @ 10:19 pace Avg HR 138

Tuesday – Cara, Christine and I met at the shop and ran 4 miles.  It was a pretty good run.  I forgot my HR monitor so I just tried to keep a pace like yesterday.  4.02 miles @10:15 pace

Wednesday – Christine and I ran 4 miles at Hamilton Lakes for a really good recovery run.  We ran more than we have there in a long time.  Super easy!  4.08 miles @11:36 pace Avg HR 115

Thursday – I had to move my long runs around due to our concert Saturday night.  I ran a solo 6 miler at a local park making some loops.  It was perfect.  I thought I had my HR monitor with me, but I only had one of the two pieces.  I ran as controlled as I could and ended up a bit fast even though I didn’t feel like I was pushing.  6 miles @9:55 pace

Friday – Long Run #2!  I met Christie and Kristen in the morning to run some miles with them.  I ended up only needing to run one solo mile which was great!  7.01 miles @10:27 pace Avg HR 1362015-07-17 09.08.42

Saturday – I wanted to get in a short run before we headed to Raleigh.  Christie was running after CF so I met her our at the same park I ran on Thursday.  Hayden wanted to come out and run a bit too!  I ran a mile with Hayden and did 3.37 miles solo.  I didn’t wear my HR monitor because I was running with Hayden and knew that we’d keep it easy.  I didn’t plan for her not to want to do any more than a mile. 4.37 miles @ 10:52 pace

I also hit my 800th mile of the year on Saturday’s run!800thmile

Sunday – one mile “rest” day.  Much needed and kept it super easy.  11:37 pace

Total Weekly Miles: 31.48 miles

Meals

We had some great meals this week again!

This week’s meals:

  • Seared Steak with Crispy Potato Salad. This was a top 5 favorite from Hello Fresh.  The shallot gravy made this whole dish and the Kalamata olives in the potato salad were so good.
  • Vegetable Pizza for a new place, Uncle Maddio’s.  It was a really good thin crust pizza.  I had mushrooms and onions on my pieces.
  • Tortellini Gratin with tomato, pesto and kale. This was another awesome dish.  I wish we had more because I would have had another helping.
  • Poached Cod in Chorizo-Fennel Broth with Orange, Zucchini, and Purple Potato Crisps
  • Snacky foods at a friend’s party
  • Arepas (corn flatbread that can be stuffed with all kinds of good things).  We tried a Venezuelan restaurant when we were in Raleigh Saturday night for the concert.  It was so good!!  I got one filled with shredded chicken, black beans, pico and cheese with a cilantro dipping sauce.  The other winner there was their Guasaca, a chunky avocado salsa.  mealsweekjuly13

Weekly Rundown

Week one of marathon training is in the books!!  If this is the way all my weeks are going to go, then this will be one good training session.  I’ve handled the jump in miles and I’m looking forward to the next coming weeks.  We have a solid plan.

Fitness

Monday – What started out as a 1 mile day and Body Pump ended up with 5 miles and BP!  I met Christie before class to get 2 miles in, then we took the class.  She still had additional miles to run after class which if anyone who has ever tried to run after a BP class is tough!  I put back on my HR monitor and said let’s go!  I ran the other 3 miles with her and we got it done.  It was tough, but we did really well.

Tuesday – I must love my friends! I planned to run 4 miles, but when Christine and I met up she needed to get in a few more miles for the week, so we ran 6 miles.  We headed by to see our friend, Kay, and snagged a freezy pop at mile 4.5.  It was the perfect run break! tuesdayjuly7

Wednesday – It was hotter than Hades.  The humidity was kicking and the air was so thick.  Going into this run, I knew that it may not go well.  I was right.  It was a run, run, run, run, WALK, run, run, run, WALK.  We just could not find a rhythm at all.  The promise of cold towels, freezy pops and Gatorade made us head to run with Thad’s running group.  We could not pass that up!  We got in 4.25 miles.

Thursday – I met Christie for some early morning miles.  My legs felt good so I pushed for 3 miles and cool downed for the last one.  This run was also day 800 of my run streak!! day800

Friday – One mile rest day!  So excited to only have to run one mile.

Saturday – Christie, Cara and I met to run early.  Christie had more miles than we did so she ran ahead.  Cara and I had a really solid run.  I was so happy with my pace and my avg HR.  I was thrilled that I did not hit my max HR (145) until the very end.  My avg HR was 127 for the 5 miles (@10:28 pace)

Sunday – Based on last February’s training, the second long run day can be a crap shoot when it comes to my HR.  Some days it would cooperate and others not so much.  This was a good day!  I was able to run the entire run until 5.8 miles before my HR monitor registered about 145.  My pace was solid and my avg HR was 119.  119?!  I was stoked! 6 miles @10:43 pacesunday712

Total miles: 31.32

2015 Year to Date Miles: 769.59 on the way to 1500

Meals

We had to piece together some meals this week waiting for our Hello Fresh delivery on Wednesday.

This week’s meals:

  • Chicken Caesar Salads
  • An appetizer sampling on Thursday at the movies with Cara and Christine
  • Coconut Macademia Crusted Tilapia, forbidden rice and sauteed squash and red peppers from Hello Fresh.
  • Grilled cheeseburgers and garden saladhellofresh710

Weekly Fitness and Meal Plan 

Happy Sunday!! We just got back from an awesome week at the beach.  It was just the type of week we all needed. Now it is back to the grind!  And…

It is the start of marathon training!!! Yes, this week kicks off training for 7 Bridges Marathon!

Meals

We suspended our Hello Fresh delivery while we were on vacation. Our delivery will be here on Wednesday which means Monday and Tuesday are on our own. I’ll shop food for each day.

  • Chicken Caesar Salads
  • Pasta of some sort

From Hello Fresh:

  • Seared Steak with Crispy Potato Salad
  • Coconut and Macadamia Crusted Tilapia
  • Warm Spinach and Spicy Chorizo Salad
